Introducing the amazing Sorsha Elson of Driven By Us , a Mechanical Engineer Apprentice at Formula 1 🏎️
During the pandemic, Sorsha discovered an exciting job opportunity in F1 through The Blair Project, an organisation committed to diversifying today’s motorsport landscape. Inspired by Lewis Hamilton's impactful Hamilton Commission, Sorsha took a leap of faith, and seized the chance to make a difference in the world of racing! A much-needed safe space has been found with the Driven By Us community made up of industry led personnel making an active difference to those within the sport and industry within STEM & Media.
Working as a Mechanical Engineer Apprentice at F1, Sorsha’s role involves the maintenance, modification and repair of the F1 Event Technical Centre, ensuring that each and every race weekend is flawlessly broadcasted worldwide. From setting up the Event Technical Centre before a race week to dismantling everything by Sunday evening and getting it ready to be sent to its next destination, each day is a new challenge and an opportunity to excel!
“The most challenging aspect for me so far has been a lack of confidence,” Sorsha reflects. “It can be very daunting, working in an environment that is completely new for you. I come from a hospitality background, now working in a male-dominated industry, travelling to F1 races! It took a lot of time to believe in myself and believe that I was not only capable of getting the job done but being good at it too.”

Now, she's also inspiring others as an F1 student ambassador and her volunteer work via Driven By Us, visiting schools, sharing bits of her journey and encouraging young girls to pursue their dreams - her DBU YouTube video is a must watch! 💪✨
